On Friday, 28th September my college department conducted a intra-department symposium. There is nothing much to write about the symposium itself , it was pretty much like any other college event, the usual paper presentation crap and the speeches etc. Now i'm going to write about one of the events , ie the General Quiz.

The Quizzing event , christened INQUIZITIVE was conducted by yours truly , and it went on pretty well i must say. Now this was my second attempt at handling a event after the spelling bee contest ( i know , this is so pathetic ! a spelling bee in a professional college ) for the inauguration of the AECE ( Association of Electronics & Communication Engineers ) which turned out pretty well too. Carrying all that confidence into this , i really wanted to make this good , at least i didn't want to fuck it up ( this was my first priority ).

We decided to have a new format for the event, instead of the typical rounds with direct and passing. And recently we had a chance to learn a different quizzing format, from the quizzing event at the ECE symposium of SSN Engg. College. The format was Infinite Bounce.

The previous evening was fully spent in picking questions for the event , we flicked a few questions from the SSN quiz , questions that were really good, and one other site that really helped us was the bcqc ( boat club quiz club ) website and their yahoo groups page. I stumbled upon bcqc a few days back while looking for general quizzing sites , and i should say the bcqc really rocks . The group was formed way back in 2000 , and they've been active ever since. ( more on this group later ).

So we picked the questions from bcqc mostly , and included a few of our own questions . Worked on the presentation till 2 in the night and i had 35 questions ( not including the audio questions ) ready. Thanks to Vijay , Venki and Ramanan for their help with the questions.

The event was originally scheduled to be held at 12.30 , but then it was eventually started only at 1.45 , cos of the damn paper presentation event which exceeded the time allotted. So my event was slotted , right after the lunch break , so i guess half the audience never turned up after the break , and even those in the auditorium were half asleep. The future looked very bleak for me , and also there were problems with the projector arrangement , that delayed the event even further , i was being constantly cursed for screwing up things and crashing the schedule . I was told i had only 20 mins to be over with my event , but my questions would easily take up 40 minutes minimum.

With all this happening , we finally started the event . It was Vijay and me on stage . But once we got started it was a breeze, we were really comfortable with the questions and the participants were also responding better than we expected them too , and above all the audience also showed some interest. [:)]. The questions were mostly sporting related and there were a few tough ones too , but most were sitters. But not even half way into the questions , i was told i had only 5 mins left. After that decided to go on express mode and complete as many questions as possible. I think we managed to do a very good job , we could finally complete around 30 questions ( which is pretty good considering , each question took at least 45 secs to explain and then getting answers took up another 30 secs. The only sore point that we could not finish the audio questions , nevertheless i think it was pretty good . The event finally ended , but only after a few hiccups , there was a mix up with the scoring and it got a little messy , finally we somehow managed to wrap it up without losing face.

So i guess our gang gets to do the quiz during the inter college symposium too , not that it is so difficult to get to do it . but we feel we earned it , unlike last time , when a arsehole got to do it cos he was sponsoring half the event ( more on him later ) .Also this has kick started a interest in quizzing , i guess i'll stay in touch with the quizzing sites like bcqc for some more time.

Quizzing rocks !!

Thats all for now ..
