Movies ...

My tryst with movies started immediately after i got my net connection for the first time, that was three years back. Back then i never was interested in movies, but when i had a unlimited net connection and loads of time to kill, i started watching movies just for the heck of it. The p2p clients like Limeware and Bearshare, and after that torrents supplied a endless stream of movies for me. I almost started watching one movie each day in that initial phase.

I remember googling for ' Top 100 movies' and stuff like that, and i used to download movies from those lists. I've watched a lot of movies between then and now , now i'm just going to list some of my favorite movies. I would recommend these movies to anyone.

Saw - You can't exactly call this horror , but for me Saw qualifies as horror, i've never been a great fan of horror movies, horror movies howsoever stupid scare me really badly. But this first movie was recommended by a very good friend who insisted that i watch it, i can't thank her enough for that. After that i went on to watch the second, third sequels on my own. And now the fourth part is being released today, October 26th 2007 .. Jigsaw's puzzles or rather death situations really scare the shit out of me, but the stuff is so well picturised and makes it worth watching. There is nothing much i can say about this series, but i'm sure everyone'll love it.

The Shawshank Redemption - Found this movie on almost every top rated movie list, when i first checked out the movie at IMDb i wasn't exactly impressed. It seemed like just another boring prison flick, but when i finally downloaded this one i was really impressed. To say anything more about this movie might take away the suspense for who've not watched it yet, i don't want to spoil your movie experience for such a good movie, so i just leave it at that . Awesome movie , don't miss this !! Cast: Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman.

A Beautiful Mind - It is a biographical film about John Nash, the famous Nobel Laureate Mathematician. Won four Academy awards including Best Picture. Starring Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly.

Saving Private Ryan - Voted the Best War movie ever. Set in WW II , 1944 during the Allied invasion of France. The first half hour of the movie depicts the Omaha Beach Assault and after that moves onto a fictional search for a Private Ryan. Starring Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, Tom Sizemore.

Troy - This movie works because of Brad Pitt. he plays the legendary Greek warrior Achilles and the movie is set in the Troy. The fight scenes between Achilles and Prince Hector played by Eric Bana are just awesome. And the rest of the battlefield scenes are so well shot and realistic.

Fight Club - A David Fincher movie , starring Edward Norton and Brad Pitt. The movie explores themes of psychological emasculation in modern white-collar society. The movie is pretty violent, but the best part about the movie is the way it leaves the viewer to make his own interpretations. A very dark movie, but awesome acting performances by Norton and Pitt make this movie worth watching.

A Walk To Remember - This was the first romance movie i watched i think, and it surely is the best so far. I must've re watched this countless times and i remember almost every single dialogue. This movie will get tears even out of a rock. A feel good movie, Starring Mandy Moore and Shane West. Tagline: ' Love is like the wind. You can't see it but you can feel it.'

Pursuit Of Happyness - Based on the true story of Chris Gardner who becomes an intern at a stock brokerage firm while he is homeless, the movie stars Will Smith and his real life son Jaden Smith as Gardner's son Christopher. Worth watching ..

To be continued ...

I've started watching English sitcoms off late, this maybe cos movies have become too monotonous. And just like any other noob, i started off with F.R.I.E.N.D.S . The perfect show for newbies like me, i was totally taken in by the show and downloaded the entire collection through torrents , i guess 30 GB in all, well i know 30 GB is not really huge, but with my 256 Kbps or 32KBps, unlimited nights connection it really took me long to download the whole thing.

The 10 seasons of F.R.I.E.N.D.S got over so soon, thats when i stumbled upon ' Scrubs ', which by far is the best sitcom i've ever watched (tho' i've watched only these two). While the F.R.I.E.N.D.S was targeted at the younger crowd, and had pretty simple characterization and a very simple plot, actually it did not have a plot really, it was just the lives, loves and laughs of six friends living in Manhattan. Moving on ..

Scrubs is a more modern sitcom which focuses on the professional and personal lives of several characters working at Sacred Heart hospital, here the central character is J.D - ' John Dorian' who plays the narrator, the rest of the story revolves around him. As a matter of fact our hero, is not hero material at all. He is just a normal medical intern, who has a normal life with normal emotions and that is just what makes it so interesting . Also the support cast is incredible, Elliot J.D's on and off love interest provides the eye candy, J.D's best friend is Dr.Turk - surgical attending physician, the hospital head nurse Carla who eventually marries Turk.

Two other important characters are Dr. Perry Cox - the medical attending physician, who J.D considers his mentor and the Chief of Medicine Dr. Bob Kelso - who is portrayed as a cold, heartless individual in most of the episodes , but sometimes we get to see softer shades of him which suggests he is as normal as anybody else. Another very important character is the ' Janitor ' of the hospital who is out to get J.D throughout the series right from the very first episode .He is the only non-medical lead character in this show. Other characters include 'Dr. Todd ', Nurse Roberts, Ted and Jordan - Cox's ex-wife and others ..

The series is into its 7th season right now, I've watched the first 6 seasons, downloaded them all , 20 GB i guess .. Waiting for the season 7 episodes on torrent now, the 7th season is slated to be the last one, so that makes it all the more interesting, can't wait to see how the show ends.

Anyways, after I was done with Scrubs, i got off sitcoms for a while and went back to watching movies . But , now i've started watching ' The Office' which is a US spoof of the original The Office -UK. Just done with season 1, and again this is completely different from the other two shows i've watched.

Thats pretty much all , downloading ' The Office' now as i write, 10 GB in all , 3 completed seasons , and the 4th one is on right now .. I guess i'll move on to other shows when this gets done , but this purpose of this post is to archive my thoughts about the first two sitcoms i watched and these definitely were a treat . I would recommend these two shows to anybody, complete entertainers and with great characters.

Signing off,

Cheers ..

Rant 1#

The blog name might suggest that this space is full of rants, but if you’ve read through the few posts I’ve made till now, none can really be termed a rant really. So I guess this is my first rant. Read on....

This is rather an outburst of anger, the anger in this post will be mostly directed at a completely screwed up character- in my opinion at least. The person I’m talking about is my DSP staff this semester.

We’ve taken his shit through this semester, and at no point I made a blog entry about him, right? This is cos’ nothing he did happen to set me off; I was just content with despising him, and cursing him et al. But this time I’ve taken it a little further and have decided to actually take some time off to archive my thoughts, the reason is , I’m really disappointed with the screwed up marks he gave me in his lab paper.

I had my DSP semester exam yesterday – 23/10/2007 and I got 72 marks on 100, this in spite of the fact that i did just about everything right, and got the right output for both my experiments, had I been evaluated impartially, guess I would’ve managed at least a 85, damn but that is not why I’m pissed off. Its cos’ everyone else, even the students who screwed up their exams got real good marks. I guess there were marks allocated for being a suck up, I must’ve missed out on those marks.

Now I know this is not such a big deal, everyone must’ve been in such situations when complete injustice is done to them. But I guess I'm really pissed this time, I really want to ask him on his fucking face about this using some real foul language, but then the only thing that stops me from doing that is the theory internal marks that he controls this semester. Not that I expect good internal marks anyways, but I just don’t want to screw up my semester any further really.

And I guess all these good-for-nothing cunts- the staff, have understood that internal marks is the only way of keeping the students from rebelling in class, so they resort to cheap tactics like threatening to screw up these marks if we step out of line. And these suck-ups in the class are so content with jumping through his hoops; I guess they’ll just about do anything to get good marks. GOK what they’ll do with the marks they’ve saved up this way. Its cos’ of these suck-ups the staff expect the same sort of behavior from the rest of the class. I can’t stop fantasizing about the good times we could have, if the class did not have even a single such suck-up. That way the lecturers will realize that they can’t get away with giving us this shit every semester.I can only dream...

Damn, I guess this truly is a rant. Finally I’ve done some justice to the blog name I picked.

More on this later, if I feel like writing about that sick bastard.
