Of Falls and Fractures...

My friend Venki's mom sustained a fracture on her left leg (just above her ankle) when she slipped and fell down today. This happened today evening when Venki wasn't home, so he asked me to go over to his place and check on his mom and maybe help his father, at this point i just knew she had a small accident at home and i was expecting a sprain or ligament damage at the most. Went over directly still in my college clothes, her left ankle was had swollen and also turned pink(?), but i still expected it to be a severe sprain or something like that, but she kept complaining about 'something moving around' inside her leg. We rushed her to the hospital and after a x-ray of the foot, it came down crashing for us. She had sustained a fracture in the two bones of her left leg ( the bone that connects the knee and the ankle, the lower end of the bone near your calf muscle), and a surgery would be required to set it right.

Now this is really huge for a simple accident at home(though' the fall wasn't exactly simple really), and now that she is also diabetic, the surgery has to wait till her blood sugar levels become normal. So for now the surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, and till then she is on diabetes medication. She'll have to live with a steel plate(and two screws and a metal wire to hold everything in place) in her leg for the rest of her life(or she could choose to have surgery again after 2 years to remove all this junk, which would cost another 50k). Damn.. This is too much for a little metal plate and two screws, all because of a single fall.

Now after an accident like this you would normally expect her to get admitted in a hospital, but then that was not to be it. She decided to put her leg in a plaster cast and return home for the weekend (this because of a lot of reasons). I really don't think i would've even left the hospital if were me ( but then this particular hospital was really sinister, so maybe i would've let them move me to a different hospital.. Home ? No way .. ).

I hope everything goes well for her ..

And speaking of fractures i've broken a hand once, that is all .. I don't even remember which one but (note to self: should ask my dad bout this) ..

P.S: You want to know what kept me away from my blog all these days ?

The work is almost complete. I know the page is really simple and looks too too boring. But then this is the best we could do. To disguise a blogspot blog and make it look like a webpage(?) isn't exactly easy.

Now that we're done with the web site info blog, we'll start working on the actual html site. We are planning to use a good html template and put in all the content from this page into that ( this is pretty simple cos' we'll be using a html editor (MS frontpage) this time, so no crude html coding). And if everything goes well we'll have a awesome html site ready by Monday, and then if the new site gets okayed we could host it by that night and also have the url redirected there. In case that actually happens we'll really miss working on the blog.

Thats pretty much all for now

Cheers

All the very best for your work with symposium...

How is venky's mom now, how did she get herself injured, that too to the extent of breaking the bone..

But these days the advancement of science makes everything costly which has to be accepted...

Cheers!!!!!

Machan iam feeling guilty da...
That day me and venky were playing cricket with our class mates in the ground, when this call came, venky slowly came to me and with his usula kulhead attitude said that his mom had fallen and that he had to go...

I don't know wether it was venky's kul head response or my poor prediction that nothing serious could have happened(women after 40 years of age usually have very brittle bones, you just a fall and it breaks...i should have predicted it),i like didn't mind coming home with venka...

But now after seeing her immobile like that,i really feel auckward. I should have come for help(atleast i could have helped carry her la)...

Any ways, really wishing her a speedy recovery...

My situation is actually even funnier.

I was riding back home from Rakesh's place, i was near Blue star when Venki called me and asked me to go over. But he never told me anything exactly, he just told me his mom slipped and fell and asked me to check on her,but then i was really hungry and i was near the Biriyani shop, i was really fixated on eating Biriyani that day so i was thinking maybe i could eat first and then go over.

I had to make a call, but then i chose to chuck the eating plan and go over immediately, finally it turned out to be useful. We left for the hospital within minutes of me getting there.

But, they you really don't have to be guilty da, cos' even if you had been there, it wouldn't have been any easier for her.

I did nothing that day except maybe hold her hand, she did all the walking herself and there was no way we could carry her down that stairs. I can now imagine how painful it must've been to limp down (she was actually jumping down one step at a time, cos' the stairs were too narrow and there was no way one could stand alongside her and maybe lift her a little) and getting into the auto was even more painful. And she did all this by herself, totally.

And about venki being cool headed, you read him wrong. That is how he reacts when he is shocked or scared. I've seen him do that, even that evening at the hospital when the doc first told us all about the fracture, he just walked away casually and sat down( far away from his mum), when normally you would expect him to stay with her. I was really surprised when he did that. Only later did he tell me bout' what actually transpired in those few minutes. When the doc told us bout the fracture he started getting dizzy and was totally at a loss of words, but then to me it looked as if he was taking it real well.

I guess something similar must've happened when the call first came in, his bro Dilip never actually told him any real detail, I guess he just said' Amma slipped and fell, come home immediately ..'. That must have shaken him up bigtime.

@yayathy: Thanx !!

She's ok.. Surgery scheduled for Tuesday, not too much pain, but she has to stay in bed for three more days.

She slipped in her bathroom macha.

Yep, the cost part is kinda justified. Venki's bro had an playground accident two years back and fractured his hand, again a surgery was done and a metal plate was put in (actual metal plate with more than 8 screws.. Jus imagine), but then he recovered really quickly after that in time for his 10th board exams.

So the surgery promises a quick recovery (and a complete recovery), so kinda justifies the cost.

Cheers..
